The Marietta Pioneers (1-3) dropped their third match in a row Saturday as they fell to the Birmingham-Southern Panthers (4-0) by a score of 3-1.

With senior goalkeeper Bobby Thaxton starting his first match of the season for Marietta, the Pioneers held Birmingham-Southern scoreless in the first half. However, Marietta was also unable to find the back of the net in the first half.

The second half was a different story, though. The Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the 57th minute when Tobias Winter scored an unassisted goal. Marietta pulled even on a goal from Dylan McLean in the 60th minute. Wesley Riley recorded an assist in the play.

The game remained tied at 1-1 until the 82nd minute when Winter scored his second goal of the game. The Panthers then added a goal from Kristjan Bryde in the 85th minute to seal the victory.

Marietta’s next game comes at home against Transylvania (Ky.) on September 14.
