Ohio Volleyball picked up its second win in as many conference games Saturday, defeating Akron on the road, 25-12, 25-12, 25-22.

The Bobcats (12-2, 2-0 MAC) won 12 of the final 15 points in the first set to run away with the game.

An Akron service error gave Ohio middle blocker Alexis Pinson the ball, as the Bobcats held a 14-9 lead. A kill by outside hitter Kelly Lamberti put Ohio up by 6 and forced an Akron timeout.

Pinson was red-hot coming out of the timeout, as she fired three consecutive service aces to put the ‘Cats up, 18-9. Ohio won five more points on Akron errors before Lamberti finished the set with an ace of her own.

The Bobcats had five of their eight service aces in the first game.

Akron (6-7, 0-2) took its only lead of the match right out the gate in the second set, but it was short lived, as Ohio took over control on another Zips error at 6-5.

Four points later, freshman utility player Mallory Salis sparked a run with kills on two straight points to put Ohio up 9-7. From there, Ohio continued to win 17 of the last 22 points and take a 2-0 lead into the locker room at intermission.

Salis was one of seven Bobcats with at least eight total attempts. Lamberti paced the Ohio offense with 11 kills on 24 attacks.

Ohio hit .407 as a team to Akron’s .184.

The Bobcats withstood an Akron comeback attempt in the third game to close out their opponent in three sets for the ninth time this season and the first time in four matches.

Ohio will host rival Miami (Ohio) (8-6, 0-2) Friday, Oct. 4, before a home date with preseason MAC-favorite Bowling Green (4-8, 1-0) on Saturday.
