The undefeated Athens Lady Bulldogs rode the hot hand of junior guard Dominique Doseck en route to a 75-61 victory over the Nelsonville-York Lady Buckeyes on Thursday night at Ben Wagner Gymnasium.

The junior guard paced the Lady Bulldogs with 39 points, helping Athens improve to a perfect 6-0 on the year and dropping N-Y to 6-1.

Now in sole possession of first place in the TVC-Ohio, head coach Wayne Horsley doesn’t want his team looking too far ahead.

“Regardless of who the opponent is, we just have to keep on doing what we do every time,” said Harsley. “Right now we are just worried about Chillicothe on Saturday.”

The Lady Bulldogs scored on the first possession of the game and never relinquished their lead.

Athens extended an early lead to 31-17 with 5:46 left to play in the second quarter, but N-Y was able to cut the deficit to 37-30 before halftime.

The two teams went back and forth throughout the second half. However, the Lady Buckeyes began to press late in the game and an Angela Meade steal and score cut the Lady Bulldogs’ lead to four points with 2:50 remaining.

However, there was too much Dominique Doseck down the stretch for N-Y to handle.

She was the Lady Bulldogs’ catalyst on the offensive end throughout the game. The junior finished 5-of-9 from beyond the three-point line and added nine field goals from inside the arc.

N-Y was able to keep the game within reach due to strong efforts from their three leaders.

Seniors Angela Meade, Brooke Breeze and junior Madison Davis led the Lady Buckeye offense. Meade finished the game with 15 points, Breeze added 12 and Davis led the Lady Buckeyes with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Nelsonville-York will travel to Vinton County on Thursday, Dec. 19, while Athens will look to stay undefeated when they take on Chillicothe on Saturday, Dec. 14.
