Explosive Offense Lifts Ohio Over Lindenwood
< < Back toAn offensively-charged start for the Bobcats gave them more than enough cushion to stave off a comeback attempt, as Ohio took down the Lindenwood Lions 7-3 in their first game back from a three-week break in the Lindenwood Ice Arena on Saturday night.
Ohio scored four times in the opening period and forced the Lions to make a goaltending change before the first intermission.
Garrett Williams scored the game’s first goal, and as the floodgates opened, Logan Pfeffer, Liam Geither and David Ramos all put the puck into the Lindenwood net during the first period.
Williams added another goal in the second period to make the score 5-1, and Brett Agnew went on to pot his team-leading 15th goal of the year to make the score 6-1.
Lindenwood scored first in the second period to make it 4-1 at the time, and then charged back with an offensive outburst after Agnew’s goal to cut the lead to 6-3.
Ohio goalie Aaron Alkema used his 6-foot-4-inch frame to stand tall between the pipes in the final 14 minutes of the game after the Lions’ earned their third goal to keep their comeback attempts at bay. His performance led him to his 10th win of the year.
Joe Breslin eventually scored a power play goal midway through the final period to put the game completely out of reach for Lindenwood at 7-3.
When the final buzzer blew in Wentzville, Miss., Ohio had its sixth consecutive road win and improved its overall record to 20-5-1.
The Bobcats were originally scheduled to play the Lions in their den again on Sunday at 2 p.m., but the game was cancelled late Saturday night due to the expectation of inclement weather in Missouri.
Ohio’s next game on the schedule is Friday, Jan. 10, against the defending national champions and team that eliminated them from the national tournament last year, Minot State.
