Two 13-year-old girls are facing charges after leading police on a chase last weekend that ended in a crash.

The chase, according to Gallipolis Police Department and Gallia County Sheriff’s Office, began at around 1:40 a.m. Sunday near 2100 Eastern Avenue. According to WSAZ, police initially tried to pull the driver over in Gallipolis after the vehicle drifted into the wrong lane but the driver refused to slow down or stop.

The driver continued to lead police on a pursuit crossing into West Virginia then onto a ramp back to Ohio. The teenager drove in the middle of the road several times and sped over the limit numerous times. The driver avoided three sets of stop sticks during the 15 minute chase.

The teenager wrecked after driving onto Indian Creek Drive, in Rio Grande, which is a dead end road. Soon after, police took the girls into custody. Investigators say alcohol and marijuana were found in the vehicle.

The teens told investigators they stole the car from a family friend after he fell asleep and they were trying to run away. Both girls were already on probation and now face several felony charges, including theft of a motor vehicle and fleeing. The girls were taken to a juvenile detention center in Chillicothe, Ohio. Their names are not being released because they are juveniles.
