Marietta Baseball Changes Weekend Schedule
< < Back to marietta-baseball-changes-weekend-scheduleMarietta College baseball coach Brian Brewer announced Wednesday that the No. 15-ranked Pioneers will play a four-game weekend series against Case Western Reserve University to open the 2014 season.
Marietta had originally scheduled to travel to Xenia, Ohio, to open the season with four games against Anderson University and Depauw University, but predicted weather issues led to the cancellation of those games.
Case Western is undefeated through four games this season and has averaged an incredible 15.5 runs per game, including a 23-11 threshing of Guilford.
The Spartans also hold a slugging percentage of .781, a batting average of .432 and an on-base percentage of .473 that will really test Marietta’s fielders and give the Pioneers a tough season-opening series.
The teams will play doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday at 12 p.m. All four games will be played to nine innings.
The Pioneers will then travel to Port Charlotte, Fla., March 8-15 to play eight varsity and two junior varsity games. Marietta is also scheduled to open play at Don Schaly Stadium on March 19. The Pioneers will host LaRoche College for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
