Ohio Beats Ohio State To Snap Losing Streak
< < Back to ohio-beats-ohio-state-snap-losing-streakOhio picked up where it left off earlier in the season and crushed four homers on its way to a 7-3 victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Fitting that all the Ohio Bobcats had to do to see success offensively on Friday afternoon was travel to Louisville, Ky., home of the famed Louisville Slugger bat.
The seven runs came without a single hit from the top three hitters in the Ohio lineup: Amanda Dalton, Alexia Cortez and Casie Hutchinson.
With two outs in the first, Casie Hutchinson earned a walk. Team RBI leader Alexandria Basquez followed her up with a blast over the fence in left center to put Ohio up 2-0. It was her first home run of the year. She later hit another to put the last run on the board for the Bobcats.
The ‘Cats put two more on the board in the second by way of an Alyssa Wolfe home run, her second of the year, that put Ohio on top 4-0.
In the third, the Buckeyes reached Savannah Jo Dorsey for three runs on a Cammi Prantl home run. Dorsey went the distance while not allowing another run and moved to 10-5 on the season with the win.
Madison Claytor cranked yet another home run in the fourth, her third of the year. Ohio’s 5-3 lead was all they would need to win. The Bobcats tacked on a run in the fourth and fifth for good measure, and went on to pick up the win.
Basquez, Adrienne Gebele and Alyssa Wolfe each picked up two hits.
The Buckeyes burned through three pitchers with Melanie Nichols picking up the loss.
In picking up the win, Dorsey went seven innings while giving up five hits and surrendering three earned runs. She also struck out five Buckeye batters.
