New standards for Ohio's jails are up for a vote that cover everything from meals to emails.

The rules up for review include revised mental health standards and changes for suicide prevention.

A state committee of lawmakers will vote on the proposals Monday.

It will be the first time Ohio's jail standards have been updated since 2003.

One proposed change would allow jails to serve inmates two meals each day.

Several mental health agencies are supporting revisions that they say would improve treatment for mentally ill inmates.

Other changes would allow jail staff to review prisoners' emails for security reasons and monitor and record inmate visits.
