The age of a teen gunman in a school shooting two years ago in northeastern Ohio is at the center of an appeal over his life sentences.

T.J. Lane's defense attorneys and prosecutors will go before an appeals court Wednesday.

They're expected to debate whether Lane, who was 17 at the time of the shooting rampage that left three dead, can be sentenced to life without chance of parole.

Lane received three life sentences for killing three students in a cafeteria at Chardon High School, east of Cleveland.

He wore a T-shirt with "killer" scrawled across it and gestured obscenely at his sentencing.

Prosecutors say Lane gave up his right to his sentencing when he voluntarily pleaded guilty. His lawyers are citing other court decisions in their appeal.
