UPDATE: Police Identify Body Found In Hocking River
< < Back to police-identify-body-found-hocking-riverInvestigators have released the name of a man whose body was found in the Hocking River Monday afternoon.
Athens Police Chief Tom Pyle said in a statement Tuesday that the recovered body was positively identified as Samuel J. Wiater, 21 of Athens.
Pyle says Wiater’s next of kin has been notified. The family was contacted as a precaution Monday since Wiater was last believed to be headed down to the river when he went missing last month.
Dive teams pulled Wiater from the water around 1 p.m. Monday upstream from White’s Mill.
Wiater’s body was sent to Montgomery County for an autopsy. Autopsy results could take anywhere between 2 to 6 weeks.
Officers have no reason to suspect foul play in Wiater’s death.
