Rio Grande Concludes Season With Lindsey Wilson and Cumberland

The Rio Grande RedStorm (27-16) will face The Lindsey Wilson Tigers (40-6) on Friday after just facing each other last Monday. The games close to each other because the last three meetings were canceled due to the weather. In the first meeting, each team came away with a victory. Rio Grande took game one 2-1 and Lindsey Wilson won game two 6-1.

In the first doubleheader, pitching was the highlight for both teams, but mainly Lindsey Wilson. Between the two games, Blue Raiders’ pitchers combined for a total of 24 strikeouts. In game two the bats were alive for Lindsey Wilson as they had four players with multiple hits. Madison Scott led the way going 4-5. She also had a RBI to help the Blue Raiders get the win.

On Saturday, the RedStorm will finish their season the way they started it, as they have their final doubleheader of the season against Cumberland (32-17). The two teams meet way back in February when the teams split the series.

The first meeting between Rio Grande and Cumberland was evenly matched in both games. In game one, Cumberland out hit Rio Grande 9-2 and scored four runs off of Jenna Jones. For Cumberland, Courtney Maynard gave up the two hits, one run, and struck out four. In game two, Cheyenne Hamaker led the way at the plate for the RedStorm by going 2 for 4 and recording two RBIs. Tiffany Bise pitched the full game and gave up three runs on five hits.

Caroline Curran got the start for Cumberland in game two, but only lasted three innings after she gave up four runs off of five hits. Jessica Lozano pitched the final three innings giving up just one hit and struck out three.

The Lindsey Wilson double header is set for 3 p.m. on Friday. The Cumberland double header is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday.
