Local author Levi Smith’s first children’s book has been released nationwide.

Smith, a resident of Nelsonville, is the author of Sparkie’s Great Adventures, a bedtime story for kids who enjoy space adventures. The book was released nationwide on April 29.

Sparkie, the book’s main character, is based on the ferret owned by Smith. While the author did not complete the illustrations for the book he said that the ferret in the story does look like his own ferret.

A summary on the publisher’s website describes the book as follows: Sparkie and her friends are on a great adventure into space! Be by their side as they face off with an angry space pirate ape and battle their way to get back home. Discover how each of their personality and skills help save the group from the wrath of Captain Puffer. What kind of danger has Sparkie gotten her friends into? Will they be able to make it back home safely?
