Tressel: Student Retention Is Biggest Challenge Facing Youngstown State
< < Back toNewly appointed Youngstown State University president Jim Tressel says student retention is the most significant issue in addressing the school's financial challenges.
The former Ohio State football coach says that retention is the "biggest financial lever we have." The school has seen declining enrollment since 2011, and officials have been seeking ways to keep students at the school.
He says the first step is for everyone on campus to believe they have a role in that.
The 61-year-old Tressel takes office July 1 at the ninth president of the school where he started his college coaching career.
Tressel had been an administrator at the University of Akron the past two years. He was forced out at Ohio State after players sold memorabilia for cash and tattoos.
