Murder Suspect Shoots Himself In Standoff
< < Back to woman-shot-man-found-dead-logan-cabinUpdate 1:53 p.m. The murder suspect in Saturday night’s shooting incident in Hocking County was located late Sunday night in a hotel room in Fayette County.
According to Hocking County Sheriff Lanny North, Michael Napoli, of Westerville, was found at the EconoLodge Motel in Jeffersonville with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in an attempt to take his own life.
Napoli was identified by his ex-wife, Kimberly Napoli, as the person who shot her and then turned the gun on and killed James Boergers Jr., 31, of Jacksonville, Fla., in Saturday night’s incident.
Kimberly and Boergers were staying at the Wildwoods Backwoods Retreat cabins on state Route 678 when the incident occurred.
HCSO reports they were notified of the incident when Kimberly was able to escape from the scene to a nearby residence and summon for help.
HCSO deputies, Hocking County EMS and a unit from Hocking Hills State Parks responded to the residence the call had originated from. Kimberly advised deputies the shooter was her ex-husband, and may have shot himself and still could have been in the cabin.
However, deputies were unable to locate the vehicle or Michael, but did at the time locate the body of Boergers.
Late Sunday night, charges were filed against Michael for aggravated murder, aggravated burglary and attempted murder and a statewide BOLO (be on the look out) bulletin was issued for Michael and the 2007 Chrysler Town and Country van he was driving at the time of the shooting.
According to North, HCSO was contacted Sunday night by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office advising they had located Michael’s van at the EconoLodge Motel in Jeffersonville.
A photo of Michael was shown to the motel clerk who confirmed he was a registered guest at the motel since early Sunday afternoon.
HCSO deputies traveled to Fayette County, met with sheriff’s office personnel and then made contact with Michael via phone by a Fayette County negotiator advising him to exit the motel room.
North stated investigators continued dialogue with Michael for multiple hours in an attempt to have him surrender. Deputies eventually gained entry into the room and located Michael with an apparent gunshot wound.
He was flown to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
It is uncertain at this time the condition of Michael and Kimberly.
Kimberly was flown to Grant Medical Center in Columbus Saturday night.
