Ohio Judge Warns Against Pot, Booze Before Court
< < Back toA judge in eastern Ohio had to admonish two separate defendants about drinking and smoking pot before court.
Muskingum County Common Pleas Judge Kelly Cottrill confronted the first defendant almost as soon as he walked into the courtroom Wednesday.
The Times Recorder in Zanesville reports that a 39-year-old man admitted to drinking before court, saying he'd been nervous about the "crazy" proceedings.
The judge accepted Ray's plea of not guilty to having sex with a 14-year-old girl in 2011, but warned him that his behavior could affect his sentence if he's convicted.
Later in the day, a 20-year-old Zanesville man told Cottrill he'd smoked marijuana the previous night. The judge chastised him for that as well as for dressing in a T-shirt and shorts.
