Following Performance Against Idaho, Quentin Poling Racks Up Awards
< < Back toOn Saturday, Ohio redshirt freshman linebacker Quentin Poling led the defense as Ohio held off Idaho for a 36-24 win.
On Monday, he picked up some hardware for his performance.
Poling was named MAC East Defensive Player of the Week, and also picked up a couple of honors from the College Football Performance Awards, as he was named the CFPAs National Defensive Performer of the Week and the National Linebacker of the Week.
This marks the second time that Poling has won the MAC’s weekly award, with the first following his performance during the Week 2 game at Kentucky.
In Ohio’s 36-24 win on Saturday, Poling had a team-high 14 tackles, and three interceptions. It was the first time a Bobcat player had three interceptions in a game since Tevell Jones did it back in 1997.
Poling’s first interception came in the first quarter. He grabbed the last two in the fourth quarter, with the last one coming with just over one minute left in the game, which officially sealed the win for the Bobcats.
On the season, Poling leads the team in most defensive categories, with 34 tackles, three sacks, and now three interceptions. He is also tied for first on the team with 3.5 tackles-for-loss.
The ‘Cats will take the field at home Saturday, for the last non-conference game of the season with Eastern Illinois at 2 p.m.
