Thirteen land use and recreation projects have been awarded grants from the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation.
The grants total more than $185,000.
The Charleston Gazette reports that the funding includes a $20,000 grant to the Upper Big Branch Mining Memorial Group. The funding will be used to support construction of a riverfront park at the memorial site in Whitesville. The memorial honors 29 miners killed in the Upper Big Branch mine explosion in 2010.
The foundation serves Boone, Clay, Fayette, Kanawha, Lincoln and Putnam counties.
