A Vinton man is in custody after an alleged shooting occurred in Salem Twp. Sunday.

Harley Smallwood, 27, of Painter Ridge, is being held on a parole violation while he is questioned and charges are pending in connection with the allegation.

Deputies responded to a report of a shooting at about 9:15 p.m. on Sunday at 33375 Shepherd Road. When they arrived, deputies were told the male victim had left the residence for another home on Sycamore Street in Middleport, according to a news release by the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office.

After deputies contacted the victim, whose name was not released, he was flown to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia, by MedFlight helicopter.

Sheriff Keith Wood said the man’s injuries were “non-life-threatening” and he was released from the hospital as of Monday.

Smallwood is being held at the Middleport Jail. It is unclear whether or not a bond has been set for him.

The investigation is ongoing, Wood said. The Middleport Police Department and the Meigs County Emergency Medical Service assisted at the scene.
