Five recruits took advantage of the early signing period and have signed with the Ohio swimming and diving team for next season.

First year head coach Rachel Komisarz-Baugh came to Athens hoping to turn around the program with the reputation as one of the top recruiters in the nation.

Three of the five recruits are butterfly specialists and will add to the depth of Ohio’s already talented core group of butterfly swimmers.

Komisarz-Baugh came from the University of Louisville and Kimberly Zehnder is from Louisville, Ky. herself.  She has great potential in the sprint freestyle events, where the Bobcats have struggled this year.

Personal bests (according to usaswimming.org):

50 free: 24.42

100 free: 52.62

200 free: 1:52.02

One future freshman that could have an immediate impact is Corrin Van Lanen.   The Green Bay, Wis. native qualified for the Short Course Winter Nationals has posted times similar to some of the top swimmers on the current roster.

50-yard freestyle: 23.31

100-yard freestyle: 50.93

100-yard fly: 55.11

Ana Henderson, from Danville, Calif., is an all-around great swimmer that continues to improve through her senior season.  She has qualified for Winter Nationals in the 200-yard butterfly and has been named an All-American the past three seasons.

Personal bests:

100-yard fly: 56.84

200-yard fly: 2:02.29

Continuing with the butterfly theme is Brittany Creasy from Canton, Ga. She also will be helpful in the mid-distance freestyle event.

Personal bests:

200-yard freestyle: 1:50.52

500-yard freestyle: 4:58.62

100-yard fly: 55.73

Finally coming to Athens will be Maddie Wyke, who comes from Columbus, Ind. The enthusiastic butterfly specialist will be a great asset to the ‘Cats.

Personal bests:

100 fly: 55.94

200 fly: 2:05.17

200 free: 1:55.59

Though the majority of the girls specialize in butterfly, they could also make their first moves in the college swimming world in other events. Ohio already has a stacked butterfly group, so these new recruits may initially be seen helping the team in other events.
