Critically Acclaimed Brass Band Returns To Nelsonville This Weekend
< < Back toFollowing a well-received set at the 2014 Nelsonville Music Festival, the Richmond, Virginia-based No BS! Brass Band is returning this weekend for a backstage dance party at Stuart’s Opera House.
The 10-piece group specializes in New Orleans-inspired, horn-driven dance music, with touches of rock, jazz and, according to a press release, “a kung fu sound.”
The concept for No BS! Brass Band grew from the friendship of founders Reggie Pace (trombone) and Lance Koehler (drums) in 2006. Wanting to start a brass band with one foot in tradition and another in the future, the pair sought out the strongest players in Richmond.
Since then, the group has become a Richmond institution, receiving awards from Virginia Living magazine (Best Band), Style magazine (Best Richmond Jazz Artist) and Richmond magazine (Best Local Jazz Combo) and garnering accolades from music publications such as Spin and Downbeat.
Saturday’s audience will be on the stage with the band during the performance. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door. Visit www.stuartsoperahouse.org for details.
