Ohio Legislator Wants To Limit Tethering Of Animals In Yards

A Cleveland-based Ohio state representative is backing legislation that would set rules for how long an animal may be tied up outdoors.
John Barnes Jr. wants to limit people tethering their animals to six hours a day and for no more than two hours at a time. His bill also would prohibit owners from tethering their animals if a heat, cold or severe weather advisory has been issued.
The bill also requires that tethers be at least 20 feet long and prohibits the use of pinching or choke-type collars.
The first violation of Barnes’ proposed law would be a minor misdemeanor.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals recently issued a statement applauding Barnes’ measure.
