Ohio Drivers Can Show Proof Of Insurance Electronically< < Back to
Ohioans are now able to show proof of insurance to police officers and state agencies with their electronic devices.
A state law that goes into effect Monday allows drivers in Ohio to electronically show proof of insurance to traffic violations bureaus, courts, Bureaus of Motor Vehicles and law enforcement officers.
The state says drivers can prove they are insured through information on cell phones, computers, tablets or other similar wireless devices, rather than a typical printed card.
Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor said in a statement that the change is a common-sense step forward for Ohio.
Officials have also said the new policy will help cut printing and postage costs.
Paper versions of proof of insurance will still be accepted.
