MILLERSPORT, Ohio (AP) – State officials are hosting an open house for those interested in learning about the engineering details of a new dam at central Ohio’s Buckeye Lake.

The 4.1-mile earthen dam at Buckeye Lake has been weakened by several hundred homes, docks and other structures built on it. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers concluded the dam is at risk of failing, and the state plans to install a new barrier.

Because of the weakened dam, the lake water has been kept low this summer, cutting into revenue for businesses.

Representatives from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Gannett Fleming – the engineering firm contracted to do the work – will be at a school in Millersport Wednesday evening to share information about the project.
