The Bobcats women’s golf team hit the links for their first tournament of the season over weekend, and the ladies put together a solid performance finishing fifth out of 16 in the Redbird Invitational at Illinois State on Monday. Ohio finished with a total score of 926 after three rounds and finished 21 strokes behind Bowling Green, the winners of the tournament.

Hailey Hyrnewich was the top performer for the Bobcats, as she finished in fourth place. Hrynewich had a total score of 223, was only seven shots over par and finished only three strokes behind the leader.

Hrynewich was tied for the lead after her first round on Saturday. She shot a 72, which was good for par, but her second and third rounds weren’t as strong as her first. Her second round she shot a 76 and her third round she shot a 75.

The Lady Bobcats second best performer was Lauren McKinzie. McKinzie finished tied for 17th and shot a total of 231, which was good for 15 shots over par.

McKinzie started the tournament a little rough as she shot a 79 on her first round but she ended up building on her slow start.  On her second round she improved to shoot a 75 and finally, on her last round, she finished right in between her first two scores with a 77.

Ohio will look to improve on their solid start to the season as the will head to East Lansing, Mich., on Saturday to start the Mary Fossum Invitational
