Coming off a 1-1 weekend that ended with a victory, Ohio field hockey looks to keep it rolling as the team prepares for two weekend home contests

The ‘Cats recorded a 3-2 victory over VCU  in Richmond on Sunday – a win that propelled them to an even 2-2 record on the young season.

The first opponent for Ohio is the Liberty Flames, a team who just recently cracked the nation’s top-20 rankings after the program’s first ever 3-0 start. Though coach Neil MacMillan was complimentary of Liberty’s style of play, he identified a specific game plan his ‘Cats will follow.

“Their defense is physically strong, but if we can be smart with running around that and not trying to match up with them physically, we’ll be fine,” he said. “I consider us to be a very fast team all over the field.”

The Bobcats and the Flames will square off Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Pruitt Field.

Ohio’s second contest of the weekend will be against the Appalachian State Mountaineers. Appalachian State has seen struggles so far in this young season, amassing one win in four attempts. Being the second game of the weekend, MacMillan is not worried about the Mountaineers quite yet.

“App State is really, really well coached,” MacMillan said. “They’re doing some good things, but we’re not really focusing on them until we worry about Liberty.”

Ohio will face Appalachian State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
