Stout Defenses to Meet during Sheridan vs. Philo

Two weeks ago, the Sheridan Generals (4-2, 4-0) were not sitting far away from the Philo Electrics (3-3, 2-2) in the MVL standings.

But all of that changed last week when the Generals beat Maysville 14-6 to stay undefeated in Conference play. This week, they have to prove that win wasn’t just a fluke.

In the past seven years, Sheridan has bested Philo five times with a combine scoring deficit of 236-85.

This year, the Generals are riding a three-game winning streak and aren’t looking to let up.

They use a strong running game that relies on the play of running backs Deryk Grosse and Ben Rhodes. Grosse has accumulated over 300 rushing yards and four touchdowns in Sheridan’s past three wins.

For Philo, Cody Wickham and Dylan Tweedy are the go-to running backs. They have combined for 453 rushing yards this season. Quarterback Nathan Baker has also done his part on Philo’s offense, by racking up 711 yards and six touchdowns through the air.

The Electrics boast a balanced offense, but it will have its work cut out for it against a Sheridan defense which has yet to give up north of seven points to a conference foe.

Philo’s defense has not been shabby either, letting up an average of 12.75 points per MVL game and holding three of its four conference opponents to ten points or fewer. However, when Philo faced an opponent of Sheridan’s stature in Maysville, the Electrics let up 35.

Should Philo’s defense step up in a big way, expect a low-scoring game on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. in Duncan Falls.
