Alexander is a ground-and-pound team and Mason Chapman is its centerpiece.

145 yards and three touchdowns later, Chapman took the air out of River Valley (5-2, 2-2). Chapman carried the Spartans (6-1, 4-0) to a 22-12 victory over the Raiders.

Alexander looked like the team celebrating its homecoming, based off the amount of energy it displayed as compared to River Valley. The Spartans moved the ball methodically down the field on its first drive, finishing a one-yard Chapman rushing score.

Alexander never relinquished its lead.

River Valley responded with a Mark Wray touchdown on its ensuing drive, but Chapman strolled in from 26-yards out to maintain Alexander’s comfortable lead.

The Raiders did themselves no favors in attempting to cut into Alexander’s lead. River Valley committed several turnovers, but none bigger than a muffed punt with 9:12 to play in the first half.

The Spartans jumped on the fumble and turned it into another gritty Chapman touchdown to bring the score to 22-6.

Alexander’s Lukas Thomas made the play of the game on River Valley’s next drive. An underthrown Hardaway pass resulted in a jump ball situation and Thomas leaped to make a spectacular one-handed grab to secure the turnover.

Alexander’s defense continued to hunker down in the second half, allowing only six points and securing a crucial conference win.
