Ohio Hockey Dominates Drexel in 8-1 Victory

The No. 8 Ohio Bobcats had an offensive attack Friday scoring eight goals against the Drexel Dragons (4-8-1) in an 8-1 win in a standing room only Bird Arena.

The Bobcats scored eight consecutive goals, starting right away with a Michael Lafrenier goal 18 seconds into the game. Lafrenier scored his second goal of the period with 9.4 seconds remaining in the first. The ‘Cats scored four total goals in the first period on 15 shots. Drexel goalie Zachary Kanter was pulled after the period for Dillon Gravenstine who finished the game.

Ohio continued to stroll in the second period, scoring three more goals. With three minutes remaining, Lafrenier scored his third goal for the hat trick. This brought Ohio up 6-0 and also brought up the Drexel tempers. Ohio’s Grant Hazel and Drexel’s Max Stetson scuffled in front of the Drexel net. Both Hazel and Stetson were given minor penalties.

In the third period, the ‘Cats scored one more goal on 19 shots on goal. Ohio goalie Ryan Heltion had kept the Dragons cooled until Ryan Beneduce scored with slightly under two minutes left in the game. On the night, Heltion faced a total of 12 shots, saving 11.

Heltion and Lafrenier carried the Green and White on the night. Lafrenier’s hat trick increases his lead as the highest scoring defender on the team.

The team has now won four straight games and look to continue rolling in the series finale against Drexel again in Bird Arena.
