In the first TVC action of the season, the Trimble Lady Tomcats took on the Wellston Lady Golden Rockets on the road Monday night. Trimble survived a late Wellston comeback to get its first win of the season 55-45.

With the Lady Tomcats up 24-9 at the end of the first half, the game had implications of a blowout. However, that didn’t end up being the case as Wellston slowly made its way back starting in the 3rd quarter. The Lady Golden Rockets ended up scoring 13 points in the 3rd, thanks to an inside presence that was non-existent in the first half.

The Lady Tomcats allowed the Lady Golden Rockets to get back in the game after being in serious foul trouble. Trimble key player, Nikki Kish, fouled out early in the fourth quarter to give Wellston a bigger opportunity. Wellston took advantage of this missing presence inside, as most of their points came off second chance opportunities and from the free throw line. Katelyn Stewart was a big force inside the paint, grabbing 5 offensive rebounds in the second half and giving Wellston a lot more opportunities to score and keeping possessions alive. With Trimble having trouble defending the paint, it caused them to foul even more and give Wellston even more chances at the free throw line.

Although Wellston did have a much better half, the Lady Tomcats who maintained control and a lead throughout the second half. A big force for Trimble after the fouling out of Kish was Sydney Hardy, who went 75 percent from the free throw line and hit a big three in the fourth quarter after Wellston thought they were going to make it even closer.

The Lady Tomcats were able to gain a comfortable lead towards the end of the fourth quarter thanks to their efficiency at the line and their ability to have quality possessions by not turning the ball over.

Trimble plays in its first home game next Monday in another nonconference game against Waterford on November 30th, while Wellston will take on Adena on the road Tuesday the 24th as they look to comeback from its first week jitters and get its first win of the season.
