CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) – A South Charleston man who was shot by police has been arrested on a fleeing charge following his release from a hospital.

Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Brian Humphreys says 28-year-old Mickey Cecil Davis was charged with the felony Monday.

Last Wednesday a Nitro police officer tried to stop Davis, whose vehicle had only one operating headlight. Humphreys says that after a short chase, Davis eventually stopped and attempted to hit the officer with his vehicle. The officer then fired several shots, striking Davis several times.

Davis was being held on $50,000 bond at the South Central Regional Jail following his arraignment. Jail records didn’t indicate whether Davis has an attorney.

Humphreys says Davis was on probation for a previous conviction for transferring and receiving stolen property.
