Benefest, a series of annual benefit concerts, returns this weekend to three different venues in Athens: Jackie O’s, The Smiling Skull and Casa Cantina.

Organized by Hocking College students and Blackout Productions, this year’s event benefits The Gathering Place and the Stuart’s Opera House After-School Music Program.

As in past years, Benefest will feature a variety of local bands. This year’s lineup includes:

Thursday Dec. 3, Jackie O’s: Gaptooth Grin, Space Buns Forever, Birthday Boy, Wholehearted Halfwits, SlackLuster

Friday, Dec. 4, Smiling Skull: Watch Them Rot, Dune, Gudger, Dweeb

Saturday Dec. 5, Casa Cantina: The Gatherers, The Summoners, Water Witches, Weird Science, Bright At Night

“As an instructor for the After School Music Program, I couldn’t be more excited to be collaborating with [Hocking College’s] WLCI Media Group to provide the local community with an awesome three-night concert event, full of great bands which exemplify the goals we are trying to achieve with our students at Stuart’s Opera House,” said Athens singer-songwriter Adam Remnant.

Entry is free, but donations are encouraged. For updates, visit the event’s Facebook page.
