Kim Rios reveals her work uncovering the nuances of stereotype threat, where individuals experience anxiety about confirming negative stereotypes about their social group. In this interview, Rios, assistant professor of psychology at Ohio University, explains her research into why Christians underperform on scientific tasks when reminded of the negative stereotype about Christians being “bad at science.” She also discusses her work in stereotype threat surrounding multiculturalism and ethnic identity, and unpackes another study where she examined power and submissiveness among leaders who have a high need to belong
