New Our Town Episode Will Feature Nelsonville
< < Back toMiss the original airing? The episode will air again on Wednesday, March 23 at 8 p.m.
WOUB’s Our Town series will premiere its third episode in March. Our Town is a series of hour-long specials showcasing towns and cities in the WOUB Public Media viewing area. Episode one showcased Lancaster, episode two focused on the Ohio River town of Pomeroy in Meigs County, and episode three will feature Nelsonville in Athens County.
Produced by WOUB Public Media, the television series visits towns large and small to uncover their histories, highlight their unique contributions to the region and explore the directions they are headed.
Emmy award-winning series producer, and Southeast Ohio native, Evan Shaw, is excited Nelsonville was selected for Our Town, and has been researching and shooting interesting features for the past several months.
“Our Town offers viewers a glimpse into what Nelsonville has looked like throughout its history. We start at the very beginning and work our way to the modern day. It’s kind of like ‘Nelsonville History 101’ in documentary form. Some people may be familiar with many of the major stories, but we also try to include some little-known facts as well.”
Our Town Nelsonville will feature many historical elements including stories about the founding of the town, the formation of the Hocking Canal, the major influences of the coal and brick industry, Morgan’s Raid, Stuart’s Opera House, Rocky Boots, Hocking College and more.
In addition to historical events, the documentary also highlights what makes Nelsonville special today, including segments focused on the Nelsonville Music Festival, Final Fridays, Parade of the Hills and the Hocking Valley Scenic Railroad.
Our Town Nelsonville will premiere at a free public screening Saturday March 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Nelsonville-York High School. The episode will air on WOUB-TV on Monday March 21 at 8 p.m. Shaw and others will be in the WOUB studio to discuss the project.
