< < Back to
The top two teams in the MAC East met on the court today as the Ohio Lady Bobcats (21-4, 13-1) walked all over the Akron Lady Zips (13-11, 7-6) 101-72.
A 29-12 run in the second quarter gave the ‘Cats a lead they never forfeited. The quarter started off with the teams trading scores until Ohio settled down.
Ohio finished the night shooting 49 percent from the field with 13 three pointers, three more than its league best 9.90 a game. Kiyanna Black, the nation’s leader in threes, sunk three against Akron for nine of her15 points. The senior now only needs four more to reach 100 and set the Ohio record for threes made in a career.
It was not all bad for Akron, as Anita Brown led all players with 29 points. She carried Akron to a 15-13 first quarter lead, scoring all but two of those points. However she struggled in the second half, not scoring until 3:44 in the fourth.
Brown’s partner and crime, Hannah Plybon, did not score her first points until the third quarter and ended the game with only eight points. Ohio’s league leading defense held the Zips to 37 percent from the field.
The Bobcats shot well from the line tonight, sinking 28 of their 41 attempts. Lexie Baldwin played lights out leading the ‘Cats with 17 points and nine rebounds. Ohio had six players score in the double digits. Akron was just unable to handle Ohio’s ball movement, and that led to total offensive domination for Bob Bolden’s squad.
Even after a 23-point lead going into the fourth quarter, the Bobcats were still hungry, cashing in 26 more points and crossing over that 100 mark.
