Ethics Commission Dismisses Complaints Against Parkersburg Mayor
< < Back toPARKERSBURG, W.Va. (AP) – The West Virginia Ethics Commission has issued an order dismissing complaints against former Parkersburg Mayor Bob Newell.
The Parkersburg News and Sentinel reports the order dated Friday says a review board found no probable cause to believe that Newell violated any prohibition of the ethics act.
Wood County Republican Party chairman Rob Cornelius filed the initial complaint in January 2015, saying Newell misused city funds, among other allegations. Additional complaints were filed by the groups’ members.
The ethics commission said in a letter to Newell’s attorney Harry Deitzler that no further legal action will be taken.
Newell retired in June ahead of a hearing on petitions to remove him from office.
In a statement, Newell, who has denied the allegations, thanked the commission for their work in the investigation.
