Bevin Speaks to Kentucky Senate in Impromptu Visit
< < Back toFRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) – Gov. Matt Bevin has made an impromptu visit to the Kentucky Senate to thank lawmakers for a long day of work on a stack of legislation.
Longtime lawmakers said they cannot recall another governor seeking permission to speak from the Senate floor during a legislative session.
The Republican governor told senators that he appreciated their efforts. His speech Tuesday night came minutes before the GOP-led Senate adjourned. The Democratic-controlled House had already adjourned.
Bevin told senators that a lot of good legislation had passed the chamber Tuesday.
He later told reporters that he supports a bill passed by the Senate a short time earlier that would give some nonviolent felons a chance to have their criminal records erased.
