The Ohio Valley Summer Theater’s (OVST) ninth annual Youth Theater Camp will present two performances Friday, June 24 at ARTS/West in Athens. Both performances are a culmination of three weeks of training in stage craft, costumes, theater tech and movement offered by the camp via training by professional and community theater actors and designers.

This year’s OVST Youth Camp theme centers on the reimagining of folk tales from Africa, Scandinavia and Japan. Campers participated in singing, dancing and production preparation including the making of costumes, props, and learned make up techniques. The teen camp included a special track for theater lighting and sound. Michael Tobar served as the camp’s music director and Maile Nguyen served the tech instructor.

A performance at 10:30 a.m. will feature “Lessons Learned,” written by instructor Elizabeth Hall and performed by rising second through sixth grade campers. The performance is directed by Elizabeth and Bonnie Hall.

The teen camp will perform “The Crane Wife,” a folktale from Japan by Barbara Carlisle, at 1:30 p.m. “The Crane Wife” is produced and directed by instructors Carol Patterson and Dayton Willison.

The performances are free and open to the public. For more information contact Carol Patterson, cpatte1@columbus.rr.com, 740-541-3728.
