Valley adds another win to their hot start, shuts down Piketon

PIKETON, Ohio (WOUB) – The Valley Indians traveled to Piketon to add onto their hot start against the Redstreaks and won with a final score of 28-7.
The game started off with Piketon at the helm, but the drive was cut short with an interception caught by junior Gavin Hannah for the Indians. Valley would then stall out, resulting in a turnover on downs.
After a Piketon punt, Valley would march down the field all the way to the Redstreaks’ four-yard line, but Piketon’s defense held strong and forced yet another turnover on downs. Another Piketon punt followed, but they got the ball right back on an interception. That would wrap up the first quarter.
Piketon would punt it right out of the second quarter, where Indians senior quarterback Braxten Conaway would send a high-flying ball to senior wideout Isaiah Clark to put Valley up 7-0. A long kick return would put Piketon on Valley’s 39-yard line. The Redstreaks moved the chains up until another turnover on downs on the Indians’ six-yard line.
After the two teams traded punts, Conaway would send another touchdown through the air, finding Hannah to extend the lead to 14-0. With not much time on the clock, it would lead into halftime.
Coming out of halftime, Valley would get right to work, going from their own 44-yard line off the kickoff. The drive would end with yet another Conaway, this time on the ground to extend the lead to 21-0 Indians. Valley would then proceed to recover a Piketon fumble, but penalties and short gains would end the drive, resulting in an Indians punt. After a short play, the third quarter was over.
Piketon’s scoring drought ended with a 36-yard touchdown run by sophomore Caleb Stanley to finally put the Redstreaks on the board, making it 21-7. They would then attempt an onside kick but was quickly recovered by the Indians. Senior running back Parker Robinson would then go on a 39-yard touchdown run, breaking multiple tackles to put Valley up 28-7.
Piketon would send another punt on the next drive, and both defenses would trade turnovers on downs. Conaway kneeled the ball down and sealed the win for Valley, moving on to 3-0 on the season.
With their second three-win start in a row and will host the Waverly Tigers (1-2) Sept. 11. Piketon will look to bounce back as they host the Westfall Mustangs Sept.11 as well.
