LEWISBURG, W.Va. (AP) – West Virginia will begin offering kiosks in malls, grocery stores and elsewhere as another option to renew car registrations without going to the local DMV.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin unveiled the booths Thursday at the West Virginia State Fairgrounds in Lewisburg.

Tomblin spokeswoman Jessica Tice says the touch-screen kiosks will be in in easily accessible locations, and can renew a vehicle registration in fewer than two minutes. The kiosks will also print registration cards and decals.

Tice says the idea adds another convenient alternative to visiting Division of Motor Vehicles offices. The DMV already offers an online application option.

The DMV will start setting up kiosks in September. The kiosks also should be able to renew driver’s licenses by November.

New registrations still will require visiting the DMV office.
