In their last nonconference game in 2016, Ohio hosted Xavier but fell 2-1.

The score was tied for for the majority of the second half but a late Musketeer goal pushed Ohio’s record to 2-6-1. Tori Doss powered home a shot with just fourteen minutes left to take the lead for the rest of the game and win by a goal.

The Bobcats came into the first half focused and ready to play defense against the Musketeers well-known aggressive offense.

The game remained scoreless until Xavier scored first with 17 minutes left in the first half, a strike from Samantha Dewey. Although Ohio had three first-half shots, Xavier managed to keep the lead for the rest of the opening 45 minutes.

In the second half, Ohio came back fighting, showing aggressive defensive and offensive skills up and down the field. It wasn’t long until Ohio’s Remi Eades scored the team’s first goal, which tied the game 1-1.

“I think we continue to find ourselves in the same situation where we find ourselves right at the door and we’re not even knocking, its half way open, we’re just having a hard time walking through it.” coach Aaron Rodgers said. “The door’s halfway open, we’ve played some difficult teams, we’ve competed, but we’re just not quote getting the results. So it’s something we’re going to have to mentally work on as well as a little more urgency.”

Ohio will travel to Bowling Green next weekend as they take on the Falcons in their next game on Sep. 23 at 7:00 p.m.
