Stuart’s Opera House in Nelsonville, Ohio welcomes Paul Thorn and his band on Friday, Oct. 7 at 8 p.m.

Paul Thorn’s songs contain a mix of roots music with Americana, R&B, blues, and rock and roll developed over a dozen albums or more and almost 20 years of live shows. In his previous life as a boxer, Thorn fought the legendary Roberto Duran, before working with music legends like Sting, Tanya Tucker, and Carole King. Thorn’s earlier catalog is cherished by his many fans thanks to his down-home perspective, vivid-yet-plainspoken language and colorful characters. Paul Thorn’s newest album Too Blessed To Be Stressed stakes out new territory for the popular roots-rock songwriter and performer. “In the past, I’ve told stories that were mostly inspired by my own life,” the former prizefighter and literal ‘son of a preacher man’ offers. “This time, I’ve written 10 songs that express more universal truths, and I’ve done it with a purpose: to make people feel good.”

Opening the show, Alice Drinks The Kool Aid is a blues band based in Chicago and founded in a Park Ridge basement in 2014 as a creative outlet for three lifelong musician friends. The drummer Jim Widlowski is a top session player in the city who has anchored many of the Broadway productions that have come to the city in the past 20 years. The bassist Alan Berliant is a peerless performer who makes his living as a composer of commercial music of all styles. Tony Magee, the founder of Lagunitas Brewing Company manages the guitar and vocal responsibilities. Since forming in 2014, the band has performed on some of Chicago’s most renowned stages such as House of Blues, Livewire, Lagunitas Beer Circus and Hide Out.

Paul Thorn and his band will play Stuart’s Opera House at 52 Public Square in Nelsonville, Ohio on Friday, Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. Alice Drinks the Kool Aid will open the show. Tickets are on sale now, reserved seats are $20 in advance or $25 at the door and can be purchased by calling 740-753-1924 or at www.stuartsoperahouse.org.
