Kentucky Replaces 511 Phone Line For Traffic, Weather
< < Back toFRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) – Kentucky officials say they have replaced the system that motorists use to get updated traffic and weather information.
A statement from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the nearly 20-year-old 511 phone system has been replaced with an online portal, Goky.ky.gov. It describes the website as an improved, user-friendly platform that provides up-to-date information on traffic conditions, construction activity and weather-related events that affect roadways.
Transportation Secretary Greg Thomas says usage of the phone system has declined in recent years, with motorists preferring visual, on-demand road and weather conditions.
In addition, Thomas says phasing out the phone system will save $750,000 annually.
