LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin says the odds of winning federal approval for his plan to overhaul the state’s Medicaid program have improved with Donald Trump’s election as president.

The Republican governor spoke with reporters on a range of issues Tuesday in Louisville.

Regarding his proposal for a federal waiver to revise Kentucky’s Medicaid program, Bevin said his administration has had “good and substantive” discussions with President Barack Obama’s administration. But Bevin says the odds of obtaining the waiver improved with Trump’s election.

Bevin says he’s had recent discussions with Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence about giving states more responsibility in setting health care policy.

Bevin also said changes are coming to help fix Kentucky’s troubled pension systems. He says the specifics will be “largely driven” by the legislative process.
