The game between the Trimble Lady Tomcats and the Wellston Lady Golden Rockets was one plagued with turnovers caused by superb defense by both squads, but the Lady Golden Rockets pulled out a 46-37 victory.

Trimble was led by strong defense from a number of players, specifically Emily Ward and Kaitlyn Spears who both had three steals each. They started off slow, not scoring until two minutes left in the first quarter when Sydney Hardy hit a corner three, something the Lady Tomcats made a focal point after the second quarter.

Wellston came out strong to start the game. They were led by the trio of Sydney Mullins, Tory Doles and Kaylee Taynor. Doles and Taynor both got 10 rebounds each and Mullins chipped in a 10 point effort for the Lady Golden Rockets.

However, the most prevalent aspect of this game was the defensive effort by Trimble. Starting at the beginning of second quarter, Trimble began running a full court press on Wellston that sparked a turning point in the game. Behind this defensive game plan Trimble was able to force 21 turnovers on the game, led by the strong and scrappy defense of Kaitlyn Spears.

Trimble held a 31-30 lead going into the 4th quarter, trading free throws with Wellston until their leading scorer Sydney Hardy was taken out with about six minutes to go. She never returned and this proved to be a huge momentum shift in the game for Wellston. Wellston’s defense stepped up, forcing turnovers and getting to the foul line down the stretch which led to a 15-6 run to end the game.

One positive aspect for Trimble was the second half play of freshman Breanna Brammer. She found her footing in the fourth quarter, becoming a force on the offensive glass and continued getting to the foul line.

Trimble will play at Waterford on Monday, December 5th. Wellston continues their season at home against Jackson also on the 5th.
