Meigs Marauders Mauling the Competition
< < Back to meigs-marauders-mauling-the-competitionWhat a week it was for both the girls’ and boys’ basketball teams of the Meigs Marauders. It started Monday when the Lady Marauders defeated the Athens Bulldogs 51-41. After only being up 17-16 at halftime, the Marauders went on a 20-5 run to take the 41-28 advantage at the end of the third, and they never looked back, as they turned on cruise control for the rest of the night. The star of the night was Devin Humphreys, who earned a double-double with 19 points and 13 boards.
The next day the boys picked up right where the girls left off as the Marauders routed Nelsonville-York 69-30. Led by a 41-4 run combined in the second and third quarters, thanks in large part to Christian Mattox’s four three’s and 18 points, along with Jared Kennedy, who added 17 on the night. This gave the Marauders their third straight win and helped them remain unbeaten in TVC Ohio play.
To cap off the week the Lady Marauders defeated River Valley on Thursday by a score of 55-37. Even though Meigs had a slow offense throughout the first three quarters, only scoring 35 points, the defense, which has been the calling card for the Marauders this season, picked up the slack. Meigs held River Valley to eleven points or less in each stanza. In crunch time with the game still somewhat in the balance, the Lady Marauders were able to extend their lead because of three River Valley starters fouling out. This win was also the third straight for the Lady Meigs Marauders.
After a tournament next week, the boys look to improve their 3-4 (3-0 TVC Ohio) record against Eastern and Athens, while the ladies look to improve on their 5-1 record against Parkersburg next week.
