Officers Fired On While Executing Search Warrant in Gallia County
< < Back toLaw enforcement officers in Gallia County were fired on while executing a search warrant at home in Gallipolis early Monday morning.
According to Gallia County Sheriff Matt Champlin deputies from his department and officers from the Major Crimes Task Force of Gallia-Meigs were serving a warrant at 672 Cooper Road. In a news release, Champlin says the officers were fired on while trying to breach the front door of the house. Soon after, a man pushed open a window at the back of the house and tossed out a firearm. Officers entered the home and arrested Joseph M. Ellis, 35, and Amber N. Stewart, 32.
Ellis faces a number of felony charges including assault, trafficking and possession of heroin. He also faces a misdemeanor child endangerment charge. Stewart faces felony charges for trafficking and possessing heroin and a misdemeanor child endangerment charge.
Officers seized a 22 caliber pistol, more than 17 grams of heroin, marijuana, and pills, along with sets of digital scales. Officers also seized more than $4,500 in cash.
