The Meigs Marauders went into Thursday’s match up against the Alexander Spartans looking to make it two straight wins after defeating Belpre Tuesday night. Things didn’t go as planned though, as the Spartans jumped on Meigs early and never let up leading wire to wire, en route to a 55-24 victory.

Alexander jumped out to a 10-0 lead within the first two minutes of the game, and the red hot Richardson sisters were at it again scoring 33 of the 53 Alexander points. Rachel Richardson, who finished with 14 points, had nine of the Spartans 21 total first quarter points, all of which came from beyond the arc. Her sister, Leah Richardson, tallied 19 points to lead the Spartans in scoring.

On the other side the Marauders struggled all night offensively, committing 18 turnovers and shot 11/30 (36 percent) from the floor. It wasn’t all bad for Meigs as Devyn Humphrys and Madison Fields led the Meigs offense, as Humphrys had four points and Fields had six.

Alexander remained in first place in the TVC-Ohio with a record of 10-2 (6-0) and will play host to foe Ironton, who knocked them out of the state playoffs last year, on Jan 14. The Marauders fell to 6-5 (3-2), still remaining in third place in the TVC-Ohio and will host Eastern Jan. 14.
