Ohio University redshirt sophomore running back Maleek Irons was arrested early Saturday morning after allegedly driving under the influence.

According to the police report, the Athens Police Department responded to an intoxicated driver hitting other vehicles on Stewart Street. When the police arrived, Irons fled the scene.

Irons is charged with driving under the influence, resisting arrest and obstructing official business. Irons was released on bond and has a court date set for Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 8:30 a.m.

The redshirt sophomore was part of a running back rotation and rushed for 439 yards this past season. He ran for five touchdowns.

In December, three Ohio University football players were arrested for aggravated robbery. None of those three players are currently listed on the team’s roster, but Irons’ name is.
