Last week Vinton County Lady Vikings head coach Rod Bentley said in order to beat Alexander they needed to eat right, get a good night’s sleep and pray. It’d be hard to doubt that they didn’t do all of those, it didn’t matter. Alexander was just unstoppable tonight winning its 10th straight 68-25.

Even with all the analysis put into sports now you never know who is going to win before the game starts, you knew about five minutes into this one though as Alexander jumped out to a 16-0 lead. From the very get go this was another clinical game for the Spurs of the TVC finding the open man and hitting the show with ease en-route to 11 assists on 19 baskets in the first half alone.

As good as their offense was Alexander’s defense may have been even better (they only allowed 25 points to a team that has scored 50 six times this season.) Their press kept Vinton County from every getting into a flow on offense as the Lady Vikings top scorer, Cassie Bentley, had just nine points.

If you don’t know anything about the Lady Vikings know this, they shoot a lot of threes. Tonight they shot 21 and they made just one. One. A three-point shooting team cannot win games when they are off like that. They simply can’t. Even worse Vinton County scored just three points in the fourth quarter.

On the bright side for Vinton County they did not play bad defense themselves as many of the Lady Spartans baskets came in transition. However, even good defense can’t stop a great team. While Leah Richardson was held in check for the most part, it was Kena Rice and Jala Mace’s night to step up as they combined for 32 points.

The Lady Vikings will have a chance to redeem themselves on Wednesday when they face Meigs, while the Lady Spartans face River Valley on Thursday.
