In Monday’s matchup, Nelsonville-York’s Jessie Addis became the first junior to score 1,000 points. The Lady Buckeyes had more than double the points as their rival the Lady Raiders as N-Y came out on top with a 52-25 victory.

Junior Jessie Addis needed 26 points going into Monday’s matchup to reach this milestone, and did so halfway through the third quarter. Every time she scored a point, the tension in the gymnasium rose as the crowd waited for the junior to reach the magic number.

After a nice layup, Addis scored her one-thousandth point and the crowd went wild. The game was paused and Addis was presented with a plaque and the game ball. She was presented to the crowd, and ran up into the bleachers to hug first her dad, followed by her mom and grandparents.

Her father, Ron Addis, said he almost cried.

“We’ve put in so many hours shooting and practicing. She wanted to be the first junior and she is,” said Addis. “We are so proud.”

Addis ran back onto the court to score 27 points total with help from teammates. The N-Y junior single-handedly outscored the River Valley team.

The Lady Raiders had 26 turnovers throughout the game, and tried desperately to keep up with the Lady Buckeyes, but to no avail.

In addition to Addis’ milestone, Nelsonville-York celebrated senior night by honoring their four seniors: Sam Taylor, Jordan Fisk, Joanna Breeze and Camrin Dupler in a small pre-game ceremony. After three quarters and a significant point lead, the seniors walked off to the crowd’s applause. They hugged and cried on the sideline as they finished one of their last home games of their final season.

The Lady Buckeyes next play in tournament play Saturday, Feb. 11 and River Valley finishes their season at home on Feb. 9 against Vinton County.
